About the Author
I'm 23 years old and currently a senior at Colorado State University. My interests include web development, open source software projects, photography, swimming, and urban exploration.
I'm presently self-employed, specializing in a variety of freelance web development work. If you happen to be looking for a web designer, programmer, or both, I would be happy to discuss your specific needs. In the past, I have worked for a web design company (SharpNET Solutions / Matrix Integrated Solutions) and an ISP/hosting company (Flare Networks).
A Linux geek at heart, I've been using GNU/Linux in some form or another since 1998. I try to stay informed about new software and various technology trends. I will try to share some of my findings on the links section of this website.
I have a rather large and varied music collection, the type of genre I listen to often reflects my current mood or outlook. On the right side of this page is a list of what I've been listening to lately. I encode my CDs digitally using OggVorbis which is a royalty free, patent free, open-source audio codec.
About the Site
Stanback.net was officially launched in 1998 when I (Brian Stanback) became more curious about web design and the potential for the web. I started learning on Microsoft Frontpage Express, which was one of the few decent web publishing software applications at the time. Since then, my techniques have evolved and I now use hand-coded XHTML and CSS with an emphasis on accessibility.
Previous Iterations
My current design is the fourth complete re-design since the launch of this blog, below are some images and descriptions of my past creations.
Fancypants Gray (November 2002) - This is one of my favorite designs. I decided to switch from the light gray to something darker (and more depressing). The opaque-transparent backgrounds and images turned out pretty good.
Standards Overdose (July 2002) - This design was my attempt at 100% standards compliance (that doesn't really say much as this site complies as well). The site was pretty good looking but the bright gray got old quickly.
New Olde (June 2001) - This was basically a take from my older design, but I switched the menu to the left side and created an image swap for the "bs ball". This was also one of my first designs to incorporate heavy styling via CSS.
